The planning area has no parks or public recreational facilities except a gymnasium located in the Mt. Hood Community College, Maywood Park Campus. However, there are a few elementary school playgrounds and one undeveloped state park within one-half mile of the area surrounding Maywood Park. (Refer to School, Park and Recreation Area Map on page 14.) There is a need in Maywood Park for parks and recreational facilities.

According to the State Parks and Recreation Division's 1977 report titled, "Oregon Outdoor Recreation", there will be deficiencies of 18,625 acres of neighborhood parks, 3,767 acres of community parks, and 10,928 acres of regional parks by 1990 for Multnomah County.

The outdoor recreation facility standards for urban areas and acreage requirements recommended by the State Parks and Recreation Division for the City of Maywood Park based upon a population of 825 are as follows:

Presently there are no existing parks or public recreational facilities in Maywood Park. However, there is potential for the citizens of Maywood Park to utilize the Mt. Hood Community College gymnasium. Today. there are no opportunities for local means to acquire land for development of park and recreation sites. The City of Maywood Park does not anticipate any future annexations of land for planned park and recreation sites.

To satisfy the needs of the citizens of Maywood Park, outside sources will have to be considered. Within a half-mile area (1.62 square miles, including the City) surrounding the City of Maywood Park, there are three schools that have recreational facilities--gymnasiums, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, and playgrounds, an undeveloped state park--Rocky Butte, which is not directly accessible from Maywood Park, and a bike way next to I-205 freeway that lies adjacent to Maywood Place.

The outdoor recreation facility standards for urban areas and acreage requirements recommended by the Parks and Recreation Division for the existing and future households for the 1.62 square mile planning area, based on population figures (11,662 for 1975, 12,888 for 1985, and 13,039 for 2000)2 are as follows:
