The intent and purpose of this chapter is to promote the general welfare of Maywood Park residents by providing for the identification, protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of areas, structures, and landmarks within Maywood Park that reflect special elements of Maywood Park’s aesthetic, historical, political, and social and other heritage, and to facilitate restoration and upkeep of historic geographical areas in order to:

A. Safeguard Maywood Park’s heritage as embodied and reflected in such resources;

B. Encourage public knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Maywood Park’s history and culture;

C. Foster civic pride in the beauty and noble accomplishments of the past;

D. Preserve diverse and harmonious architectural styles reflecting phases of the city’s history and encourage complementary design and construction areas impacting cultural resources;

E. Enhance property values and increase economic and financial benefits to the city and its inhabitants;

F. Identify and resolve conflicts between the preservation of cultural resources and alternative land use;

G. Carry out the provisions of Oregon’s Statewide Land Use Planning Goal 5. [Ord. 26 § I, 1986.]
